Owen McIntosh of Bloomfield, Conn., has accepted a position with Storrowton Village Museum as program assistant. His responsibilities will include processing applications for and facilitating youth education programs, assisting with collections projects (i.e. artifacts documentation), serving as staff leader for volunteers and more.
“Owen started with us in May as a library and archives intern,” said Jessica K. Fontaine, ESE Director of Storrowton Village Museum. “He showed significant interest in all aspects of our programming, and he wowed us when he jumped into costumed interpretation for both The Big E and Yuletide. He has proven an asset.”
In May of 2024, McIntosh graduated cum laude from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History and minored in philosophy. During his undergraduate career, McIntosh was involved with the New England Council on Latin American Studies, the Creative Writing Club, A Hand Up and Model United Nations. His previous places of work include The Fresh Market and Whole Foods Market.
As an intern at Storrowton Village Museum, McIntosh provided tours as a costumed historical interpreter during the Fair, managed volunteer shifts and was entrusted with securing the museum at closing time each evening.
McIntosh grew up in a large extended family whose members had a vested interest in history. He has been surrounded by historic knowledge since his childhood and fostered his own appreciation for the subject as he explained landmark moments in time to friends and family. He honed a passion for communicating history and found a sense of purpose in making information accessible and detailed so that his audience can absorb as much as possible.
“I know I wanted to major in history during my undergraduate studies,” explained McIntosh, “but I was not sure what direction I would then take professionally.”
A course that was a major requirement for McIntosh opened his eyes to history at the local level and reinforced his interest in the 18th and 19th centuries. The implications of these decades
"I’m really excited to be joining the staff at Storrowton Village!” said McIntosh. “I’ve been set on a career working in museums for a long time, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to take my first steps on that path here, especially with a dedicated, like-minded and welcoming team."
The Storrowton Village Museum team is delighted to retain McIntosh following the conclusion of his internship and pleased to advance his career in the museum industry.
