Guiding the Mission of Eastern States Exposition

Eastern States Exposition is a nonprofit educational organization chartered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Trustees made up of 165 voting trustees representing all six New England states—40 from Massachusetts and 25 each from Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont.

Our trustees are respected leaders in agriculture, business, education and their local communities. Serving without compensation, they help guide the organization's mission, provide oversight and advocate for Eastern States Exposition throughout New England.

Each state elects a Chair and Vice Chair from among its trustees. Together with Directors-at-Large, they comprise the Board of Directors, which provides strategic leadership and fiduciary oversight while working closely with the President and CEO.

No one person owns or controls Eastern States Exposition. Instead, the organization exists to serve the public by advancing agriculture, education, entertainment and economic opportunity throughout New England.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Eastern States Exposition is entirely self-supporting. It receives no ongoing federal, state or local tax funding and operates through revenue generated by year-round events and facility rentals, along with admissions, concessions and exhibitor fees during The Big E. Those revenues are reinvested into operations, capital improvements and programs that further the organization's mission.
