Madison Surette's Endeavor as Marketing Intern
Madison Surette of Stoneham, Mass., served as a Marketing intern at Eastern States Exposition (ESE), the home of The Big E, throughout the Fair’s 2026 season. In this role, she supported the Marketing department through written communications and creative visual storytelling tasks, including creating internal and external press releases, greeting visiting members of the media, starring in digital content and assisting with various other marketing initiatives.
“I am honored to have played a part in an organization that is consistently dedicated to providing its patrons with the best possible experience,” said Surette. “I enjoyed expanding my knowledge through this opportunity.”
Surette is a rising senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, pursuing a double major in communication and journalism with a concentration in public relations. She is an adaptable individual and has maintained a satisfactory collegiate career, earning a place on the Dean’s List while balancing multiple professional roles and extracurricular activities. Through her role in the Public Relations Student Society of America, she has gained valuable knowledge by practicing strategies to ensure she is an exceptional Public Relations professional.
Her experience also extends to event preparation and community engagement. Through her work with a UMass student-run organization, Surette assisted with festival preparation, including client outreach, guest coordination and event-ground construction.
Nevertheless, her applicable background is not limited to communication endeavors; her formative years spent in New England provide a deep understanding and adoration for the valuable traditions that The Big E exhibits.
“I’m greatly enjoyed creating content that showcased the beautiful community of New England through the lens of ESE and The Big E,” said Surette.
Surette brought valuable experience from her academic career and extracurricular opportunities, using her communication, creative vision and other skills to the Marketing team to bring The Big E to life.
“During the Fair, there is never a shortage of information to collect and cover,” said Elizabeth Gourde, communications and public relations coordinator at ESE. “Leading up to and throughout The Big E, our team works tirelessly to coordinate with the media, disseminate important news lines and other promote the exciting opportunities at the Fair. Madi’s contributions in research and writing were critical, and we are grateful for her commitment to our institution.”
