SUMMERTIME FUN FOR EVERYONE:
FAMILY CAMP DAY AT STORROWTON VILLAGE MUSEUM, AUG. 3
Relive the magic of summer camp 19th-century style! Storrowton Village Museum invites families to its Family Camp Day on Monday, Aug. 3, from 11:30am to 2:30pm for an afternoon of old-fashioned fun and hands-on history.
Family Camp Day celebrates the long-running Early American Summer Days youth educational program, a Storrowton Village Museum tradition that has endured for more than 30 years. Now, parents, guardians and other members of the family can share the fun that school-aged participants enjoy by experiencing the program together.
Activities include hoop and sack races, candle making, paper quilt weaving, a visit to the Eastern States Exposition History Museum and a tour of Storrowton Village Museum’s beautifully preserved buildings and more.
“On Family Camp Day, we invite families to come for a variety of activities, including hands-on textiles,” said Jessica K. Fontaine, Director of Storrowton Village Museum. “Guests can learn carding, where they take some wool from sheep and clean it and move it forward to make it into yarn. We have a drop spindle there, and you can even try your hand at weaving to see the process all the way through.
“That’s ultimately our goal: to make people realize that so much of these traditions still happen in New England today. Though it may look a little different, people are still raising sheep to be able to have them for wool and people are still cooking over a fire.”
Lunches are served to children 18 years of age and younger registered in advance. The menu is a classic school lunch with a choice of a turkey sandwich or sun butter sandwich with a cheese stick. All lunches are served with a vegetable, fruit, 8oz milk and chips. This menu is subject to change without notice.
Tickets are just $7 per person when purchased online at StorrowtonVillage.com prior to the event date, and $10 tickets are available at the door the day of the event. This is a rain or shine event, so come dressed for the weather. Severe weather may result in cancellation.
We hope to see you there! The Village offers numerous educational programs all summer long, however, so be sure to head to their website or check out their social media to view their events calendar.
